In case either of you were wondering about some of the names of these poems ...

Showman = Magician - they seemed like the same thing to me

Hierophant = Pope - I saw no reason to bring religion into the poem

Hedgeman = Hermit - for the feeling of being part of a different world, rather than separate from the world; 'hedgeman' has a good provenance in the rural dialects of East Kent

Fortune = Wheel of Fortune - to keep the title down to a single word

Hangman = The Hanged Man - changes the patient to the agent, I know, but again it's a one word title

Worlds = The World - again, for the multiplicity of the thing

Anyways, now that's out of the way ...

The Rik Videos: Strength

You'll both be happy to hear that I've updated the website with the first 11 videos for the online version of "22 Facets of my Father". The individual webpages are set up to display the video (or listen to the audio) only if the visitor clicks on the appropriate link in the top right of the window - I don't want people to be scared away from the text by the sight of my (distinguished, yet alien) face.

I assume you're both enjoying these videos; the quality of the thingies may be questionable - though after overcoming my aversion to hearing my voice and seeing my face and watching my lips move funny as I speak, well, I'm quite pleased with them - but the intention is honest: I want my poems to be as accessible to folks in as many different ways as I can make it.

The Rik Videos: Fool

See, I promised myself that one of the things I'd do this year would be to add more video stuff of me reading my poems to the website. Naturally, I've found myself plenty of excuses for not doing the work since then.

So it came as a surprise to me when yesterday evening I found myself mubling into a videocam and then this morning playing with video editing software. The result is ... well, me reading a poem.



Already I've ordered myself a new video camera thingy; nothing too flashy, of course, but the camera I used for the above is leaking steam all over the place ...
